Voltage Converter Transformer
Is it safe to place a voltage converter/transformer outdoors?
I have some christmas lights that I bought abroad but they are not the same voltage as in here in the US. Does anyone know if is it safe to plug-in a two set of chritsmas lights outside my home using the same voltage converter/transformer?
First, I’d make sure the voltage converter is safe for outdoor use. Many converters may allow water or moisture to accumulate inside the housing which can create a short circuit and in the worst case could cause a fire.
Second, look at the power requirements (wattage) of the two Christmas light sets. Then look at the power rating of the voltage transformer. If the transformer has a higher power rating than the power required by both sets of lights together then you should be ok. If not, then you risk having the power converter overheat and again that could in the worst case cause a fire.
