Telescope Eyepiece Software

Can software simulate telescope filters?
Filters and other light frequency modifiers are used in astrophotography, many being merely ‘screw-in-the eyepiece’ type devices. My question us: Could some form of photolab software take the place of these frequency modifiers?
In astronomy, there are beginner-level CCD cameras that take colour photographs (I have one where each pixel is divided in 4 sub-section, each one captures a different colour with the use of a filter affecting only the corresponding sub-section).
in such case, it is possible to use software to, let’s say, remove the red signal.
However, in high end CCD cameras (and in ‘serious’ films and plates) everything is done in black & white. It gives more sensitivity (the entire pixel, not just 1/4 of it, can be used to capture the kind of light you want) and more control (I may want to capture a very specific frequency which is poorly matched to the permanent filters in the color camera).
Any photon that hits the chip may release an electron and it is the number of electrons that is counted for each pixel (or, for film, the size of the blackened grain or the density of such grains).
Once the picture is taken, you have no idea if the counted electrons was the result of a red photon, a blue photon, some excessive heat in the camera, a cosmic ray hitting the grains of silver salt (or the CCD chip), a polarised light or not, or whatever else.
Therefore, software cannot replace filters: If you want to analyse only the blue light of a particular galaxy, you must put a filter that only allows the blue light to get through.
If you don’t, you will have no way of telling which electrons (or silver grains) are the result of blue photons instead of anything else.
