Tile or sand for the floor of my beardie’s enclosure?
I’m currently in the process of upgrading my beardie to a larger enclosure. I currently use sand to cover the bottom of her enclosure, but am thinking that with this much larger new enclosure buying bags of sand could get costly and clean-up could get tricky. I’ve seen people lay tile down in their bearded dragon enclosures but have often wondered if the heating lights would heat the tiles up and make them hot for the beardie to walk on. My new enclosure will be made of wood, so I’m wondering also if it would be difficult to use an under the tank heater. Any suggestions you could give me would be very appreciated. =)
Actually I have a better alternative…. There is a cat litter(now you think Im crazy) called Swheat Scoop… its an all natural wheat cat litter so if its injested it wont cause impactions like sand or bark. It looks a lot like the walnut shell but is MUCH cheaper… I bought a 14LB bag for 16.99 and got three inches of bedding in my 55 gallon dragon tank. Its still natural looking but you can scoop it like cat litter, its edible, it caries no dust, and doesnt heat up to much or stay cold… its proven a great alternative in my tanks it also works for cats birds older ferrets rabbits and snakes…
