Fight Aging Skin with Photo Rejuvenation

Photo rejuvenation can either be mechanical, thermal or chemical. Mechanical treatments use lights; thermal methods include thermage, while chemical options are chemical peels. We’ll explore the mechanical option.
Essentially, it uses light of different wavelengths and pulses to get rid of certain skin ailments while improving the skin texture and encouraging collagen growth. It works best in treating damage caused by the sun and environmental factors. You see, as the skin ages it shows visible signs of sun damage and bad lifestyle choices such as vascular redness, mild acne scars, rosacea, uneven pigmentation, wrinkles, freckles, broken capillaries, blotchy skin color and enlarged pores.
Studies have shown that skin cells grow 150 percent faster when exposed to certain light wavelengths. These lights have powerful therapeutic benefits and reverse signs of aging. Photo rejuvenation or photo facial is performed using an IPL device. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light which uses specific light filters to focus on a particular area of the skin. This light energy enters just below the skin’s surface and damages either the skin pigment or blood vessels. It now relies on the body’s own natural defences to remove the damaged tissue by creating new skin cells, which in turn leads to smoother looking skin.
Since the Intense Pulsed Light is limited by a filter, it creates various wavelengths. The shorter wavelengths help in removing unwanted vascular and pigmented lesions, while the longer ones are used to rejuvenate the skin. The main benefits are even skin tone, radiant looking skin, and increased collagen improving the overall texture of the skin.
The good thing is photo rejuvenation has very few side effects. One may notice a slight darkening of the pigment before it lightens. Or the skin might seem a little flushed right after the treatment. But this usually lasts for a day after which one can get back to one’s daily routine.
Photo facials are safe for any age group, skin type and color. Each sitting lasts for about thirty minutes and needs to be repeated after a gap of three weeks. Usually, a series of five treatments are good enough to tackle a skin problem. After each treatment it is important to use a sunscreen and avoid cleansers that are harsh on the skin.
