Will a Quantaray Lens for a Nikon film camera work on a digital camera?
I have a zoom lens that i purchased for my film camera and wondered if it would work on a digital camera. Is there a website or manufacturer website that would provide a cross reference?
If it is a Nikon Mount Auto focus lens it should work fine on any Nikon Mount Digital SLR with the possible exception of the new D40 – which I believe only uses the “G” type lenses where the lens opening is set electronically.
If it is a Nikon Mount Manual Focus lens and if it was made in the past 25 years (so it has an Ai type mount) it will work on the same cameras – however the meter will not couple on the less expensive cameras (such as the D70, D80, and D100), so you will have to set the exposure by guessing. If you have a D200, the lens will couple to the meter.
- Keep in mind that because the sensor on Nikon digital SLRs is smaller than 35mm full frame, your lens will act like a lens with a 1.5X longer focal length. (For example, a 70 to 200mm) will act like a 105mm to 300 mm lens on a 35mm film camera.)
