Chroma Key Blue
Is chroma key only green or blue?
I’m making a video and was wondering if chroma key was only green or blue.
I’m asking because i’m curious and i dont have those colours.
In theory you can use any color you like as a key source. In practice green or blue are used because there is little or no similarity to the colors of the foreground objects, which are usually people. Using red as a key color would probably mean keying through anyone with even the slightest amount of red in their complexion, for example.
Blue is traditionally used for film, for reasons that are no longer relevant but have to do with the ease with which a high contrast negative can be created from the blue portion of the film. And NTSC video displays green more accurately, so it’s used with video. Today, with everything being digital, either will do.
