Brown Photo Background

What background to use for my photo?
I have pale skin, medium to dark brown hair, and I plan to wear a dark, solid color shirt.
The portrait studio wants to do a white background. Is that really the best background?
Is it okay to wear a black shirt? I look good in black, but I wonder if it’s too stark a contrast with my pale skin for a photo.
I look okay in white, but I’m afraid I’ll just get washed out.
This is just a regular mall portrait studio.

Very white skin color, white background and black clothes, I don`t think will match, use a light, not too light color like sky blue or green, anything but black with a white background, or vice versa, use black clothes if you look fine, but color background.I think this is the better option.
