Sell old camera and PSP for DSLR?

I have been planning on getting a DSLR for a while but i was wondering this. Okay i have a PSP this is the second time it has broke. I plan on selling it once it get backs from sony for repair. I don’t want a device that breaks every month so i dont want it any more. Since i would be getting a new camera i thought i would sell my old sanyo xacti waterproof camera. Is this a good idea. How can i convence my parents it is a good idea. Thanks!!!

Whether it’s a good idea depends on which way your scale tips. Are you content with your PSP and xacti? Or could you sacrifice these for a more ________ (whatever it is in your mind) DSLR?

Selling your existing things (especially a game console) sends a message: you really want it. You won’t get much money from the PSP/xacti so you’ll need to either sell more things or convince your parents to chip in if you don’t already have a job.

DSLRs don’t come cheap. Here are a few cameras you may be interested in (all under $500 USD with a kit lens):
– Olympus E-410
– Nikon D40
– Canon XT / XTi
– Pentax K100D

Of course, if you had your eye set on something better or can afford better options go for it.

Read up on them and show you have some knowledge of what you want to get before you make your proposal. If they’re really stubborn, try telling them how it’ll benefit the family as a whole but not to the extent that it becomes a family camera purchase.
